The Final Specimen: Arrival is here! A classic 2D platformer with a genuine comic kick, THE FINAL SPECIMEN hearkens back to the days of the Sega Genesis and SNES, early 90’s 2D gaming at its height. Its colorful, vibrant environments recall the worlds of Sonic the Hedgehog, Earthworm Jim, Commander Keen, Toejam and Earl, and Boogerman – and its sense of humor certainly follows suit as well. Run, jump, swing, punch and bomb your way across 8 long, challenging stages, each offering unique obstacles and hilariously bizarre enemies. Relax in between levels and watch the game’s story unfold in a series of dramatic, fully-scored cutscenes. And most importantly, enjoy the ride!
In this first of two installments, a young earthling named Thom (yeah the main character is based off me; if you make your own game you kind of cave to the inevitable narcissism) is transported to the distant planet Groovitopeler. He learns he is the last of a series of human test subjects, all abducted and studied by the game’s antagonist, a comically ugly green alien known only as The Insane Monster. The last surviving member of his species, the Monster has been observing humans for years as he plans to conquer the earth, exterminate humanity and breed a new generation of his kind. He and his elderly human companion, Jones Geezer, plan to destroy Groovitopeler before moving in on Earth, and have selected Thom as a failsafe subject. His test is simple: prevent the destruction of the planet. For it is the je-ne-sais-quoi survival instinct of humanity that the Monster fears most, and though his other human subjects have not held up to his standards, a true doomsday scenario must be observed if he is to truly be confident in his ability to destroy the human race. This doomsday scenario sets the backdrop for the game as you traverse the hazardous terrain of Groovitopeler, staying hot on the trail of your two foes to stop them before they can pull the trigger.
You are the only human who has the power. You are the culmination of years of alien experimentation. You are THE FINAL SPECIMEN.
